Things You Should Know Concerning the Purposes of this Church

1—This church is governed by Christ
Christ is the head of the church (Colossians 1:18). SMCC was organized and exists for the specific purpose of bring people to accept Christ and to be ruled by Him as their King. Thus, we seek to be Christ’s church in doctrine, name, government and life as described in the New Testament. (Acts 2:42)

a. Have Christ as our only Creed (Matthew 16:1 8).
b. Wear Christ’s name only (Romans16:16; Acts 11:26).
c. Accept the Scriptures as our only rule of faith (II Timothy 3:16-17).
d. Remember Christ in the Communion Service the first day of the week (Matthew 26:26-28; Acts 2:42; Acts 20:7).
e. Lead sinners to Christ in His Appointed way—

    FAITH IN CHRIST (Mark 16:15-16, John3:16)
    REPENTENCE FROM SIN (Acts 2:38, Acts 17:30-31)
    CONFESSION OF CHRIST (Romans 10:9-10, Matthew 10:32-33)
    BAPTISM INTO CHRIST (Galatians 3:27, Acts 8:38-39, Romans 6:1-6)

f. Continue to live as Christians in all phases of life {Phil. 1:27, II Peter 1:5-11, Revelation 2:10).

There is one Body, one Lord, one Faith, one Baptism (Ephesians 4:4-6). Christ is the head of the Church (Colossians 1:18). Our services are held for the glory of Christ (Matthew 28:18-20, Colossians 3:17).

Mission Statement

South Memorial Christian Church is a Bible-based New Testament church of Christ which provides people a Christ-centered environment and whose responsibility is to “make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that Jesus commanded.” (Matthew 28:19 & 20)

Vision Statement

The vision of South Memorial Christian Church is to be a loving and benevolent family which reaches out to every member of our community and beyond by:

  1. evangelizing the lost despite age, race, gender, religious affiliation or economic status
  2. declaring that faith in Christ, repentance of sin, confessions of Christ as the resurrected Savior and baptism (immersion) into Christ are necessary for salvation
  3. teaching and nurturing with weekly Bible studies and prayer
  4. providing weekly observance of the Lord’s Supper
  5. involving the church in community functions and programs
  6. exercising benevolence
